Seoul Searching

Way too early on Wednesday morning Nikki and I woke up and headed to Narita Airport to fly out to Seoul for a few days. After our first 2.5 days in Tokyo being rainy and cold (which I didn’t mind at all), the weather that morning was beautiful. So as soon as we got into the air, this was the view out of the window.

Hi Fuji-san

After what felt like 30 min or so, but was really like 2 hours, we were landing at Incheon Airport in South Korea. After customs and immigration we were off to get a WiFi box and a bus ticket to our hotel. It was all very easy and the bus was very comfortable and cheap. It was ₩17000 ($12usd) for a ticket from Incheon to basically the front door of our hotel where it dropped us off.

We’re staying in Myeongdong at a pretty cool hotel in the area. It’s admittedly very touristy, but also very central in the city and a good jumping off point to head anywhere else in Seoul. Which is why on our first day we went to… places within walking distance of the hotel 😂😂😂.

Okay so what had happened was my homie Dak introduced me to his friend Noah who’s is Korean and lives in Korea, and he met up with us basically just a few minutes after checking in to our hotel and showed us around. That basically turned into a sick ass tour of the area we were in and areas very close by.

Me and Noah in Namdaemun

I didn’t ask Noah if I can post this picture to respect his privacy this is the version y’all get. Anyway first thing we did was eat some Korean fried chicken which I did not take photos of cause we were all getting to know each other. Then we went down towards Namdaemun and saw the gate in the photo above.

During that time we went to Namdaemun Market and with Noah’s help and advice had some pretty great Korean street foods. My favorite being the sweet seed hotteok. It’s like a fried pancake but there’s sweet sauce in the middle with sesame and sunflower seeds and Holy Shit was it delicious. At this point it’s the end of day 2 and it’s still my favorite thing I’ve eaten and I’ve eaten a lot and all of it was great.

Not the best photo but I swear this joint is the shit

Then we walked around and saw a bunch of shops and alleys with everything from pristine old camera shops to bootleg supreme bags. It was interesting. We also went to “alpha” a pretty sick stationary store. I’m grateful that Noah was around to kind of give us our first crash course of Korean culture live and in person. Shouts out to Noah!

So yea at this point I’m going to post some pics and stuff from the day and then under it, if I’m inspired, I’ll try to write some profound or deep thought I have about that day or the feeling I got from it. Enjoy.

Egg bread. The second best thing I’ve ate so far.

I guess my “deep thought” is just that first impressions do sometimes matter. Seoul must’ve known I was coming because it made a pretty damn good one. I have thoughts. I won’t speak them yet because 48 hours is not enough time to put my opinions of a place on the internet forever.

I got love for Seoul, I won’t compare it to anywhere else. I’ll just base it off the energy that it gives back to me. That’s all for now… still have another blog to write.

Peace
